Northward migration of the Javanese volcanic arc along thrust faults

چکیده

East Java is characterised by a complex interaction of volcanic and tectonic processes it marked isolated eruptive centres scattered across the back-arc sedimentary basins. In 2006 large sediment hosted geothermal system named Lusi, pierced Kendeng basin in since then continues relentless eruption mud breccia. To investigate spatial structural relationships between arc domains, we perform local earthquake tomography. The inversion regional earthquakes recorded our seismic network (for about two years) shows sharp Vp Vp/Vs transitions. We observe reduction P-wave velocities high ratio Our study highlights clear connection plumbing northern province. propose conceptual model suggesting that magmas hydrothermal fluids may migrate from middle to upper crust into basins capitalising on existing thrust faults. Such low angle faults, promoted compressional regime region, link magmatic domain provinces. This process represent early phase migration when magma-derived are focused fractured permeable geological structures. would not only help understand occurrence abundant mantle-derived sampled back-arc, but also consistent with hybrid systems piercing environments Java.

Thrust faults along the dichotomy boundary in the eastern hemisphere of Mars

[1] Mars Orbiter Laser Altimetry (MOLA) data have been used to characterize lobate scarps along the dichotomy boundary in the eastern hemisphere of Mars. These structures are the surface expression of thrust faulting of the southern highlands. Displacement on the thrust faults is generally less than 1 km except in the case of the Amenthes Rupes thrust fault, where the maximum displacement is on...

Thrust faults and the global contraction of Mercury

[1] Lobate scarps on Mercury are the surface expression of thrust faults and are generally thought to be the result of global contraction. Our analysis indicates that these thrust faults are not uniformly distributed and exhibit non-random patterns on the imaged hemisphere. The greatest area normalized cumulative length of the faults occurs in the southern hemisphere, below 50 S. The thrust fau...

under horizontal thrusts becomes more and more advanced. This is consistent with the observed diminution of the differences in the carbonization of coals lying at different depths in the vertical column as the regional carbonization passes through the semibituminous and anthracite ranks. Since neither the relative values of the factors, pressure, temperature and time, or their respective substi...

Late Miocene northward propagation of the northeast Pamir thrust system, northwest China

Piggyback basins on the margins of growing orogens commonly serve as sensitive recorders of the onset of thrust deformation and changes in source areas. The Bieertuokuoyi piggyback basin, located in the hanging wall of the Pamir Frontal Thrust, provides an unambiguous record of the outward growth of the northeast Pamir margin in northwest China from the Miocene through the Quaternary. To recons...

Evolution of a hydrocarbon migration pathway along basin-bounding faults: Evidence from fault cement

Extensive calcite fault cement has resulted from leakage of Santa Barbara basin fluids and hydrocarbons into the Refugio-Carneros fault, a north-bounding structure to the basin. Calcite cements are only found at the end segments of the 24-km (15-mi)-long fault zone, which has less than 150 m (490 ft) of maximum normal offset. The calcite is contemporaneous with fault movement, as evidenced by p...
